Global gas flaring round-up: 22 July
Here’s a round-up of some of the news on gas flaring this week:
- Capterio published a paper “gas flaring in the global LNG supply chain” which has been widely read and also reported on by Energy Flux “the glaring problem with ‘carbon neutral’ LNG” and Boiling Cold “Ichthys flaring cast doubt on carbon-neutral LNG cargo“. You may also wish to hear a radio interview with Mark Davis and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation discussing flaring at the Icthys field. The interview is available here and runs from 1:20 for about 7 minutes.
- OPEC reaches a deal to increased oil supply to meet growing demand as the world slowly recovers from COVID. Four countries have increased production baselines, which is likely to increase gas flaring by 2 BCM per year, combusting an additional $400 million worth of gas.
- Harbour Energy joins the World Bank’s “zero routine flaring” by 2030 initiative.
