How FlareIntel Is Tracking the Energy Impact of Middle East Disruptions in Real Time

War in the Middle East has led to a series of high-profile shutdowns of major oil fields and gas and LNG facilities. Capterio’s FlareIntel platform is tracking the resulting impact on gas flaring in real time.

In Iraq, flaring of associated gas — the by-product of oil production — has fallen sharply as national oil output has dropped from around 3.3 to 1.3 million barrels per day. With less oil being produced, less associated gas reaches flare systems.

By contrast, at Qatar’s LNG and petrochemical complex, flaring rose dramatically following the shutdown of liquefaction operations. When LNG trains stop suddenly, gas that would normally be processed or exported must be safely purged to flare.

In an increasingly volatile energy system, flare monitoring is becoming a real-time indicator of how geopolitical shocks ripple through global oil and gas supply.
