Exports down. Flaring up. Libya can fix it.

Solving complex real-world challenges requires face-to-face engagement in the field.

That’s why I was so encouraged to spend time in Libya having open, welcoming, and highly constructive conversations about gas flaring with an incredible range of leaders and practitioners — including CEOs, senior executives, and representatives from Libya’s National Oil Company, international partners, government, and service companies.

I truly valued the opportunity to understand the situation deeply, to listen, and to learn. The openness, engagement, and shared commitment to finding solutions made the visit exceptionally inspiring.

Libya has a tremendous opportunity to capture around 7 billion cubic metres of flared gas — equivalent to $2–3 billion in additional export revenues, a major decarbonisation opportunity, and one that can be delivered using proven technologies already in use today. Real progress will come through on-the-ground collaboration, creativity, leadership grit, and a shared sense of optimism about what’s possible.

My sincere thanks to the panellists, the conference organisers, and the Libya British Business Council (LBBC) for creating such an engaging and impactful forum for discussion and collaboration.
