Capterio supports budding scientists with hands-on work experience on global flaring challenge
As part of Capterio’s commitment to encouraging the next generation of scientists, we were delighted to host another intern for work experience at our global headquarters this week.
We had the pleasure of hosting Flynn Steves, a year ten student with a special interest in Physics and Maths from Dartford Grammar School, for a week to explore how Capterio’s award-winning climate technology platform “FlareIntel” helps to identify business opportunities that result from reducing gas flaring.
Flynn’s workscope for the week included reading and distilling a range of papers, analysing complex data in python, developing algorithms to compute critical metrics such as inverse square proximity indicators … and building a visualisation platform using Microsoft Power BI.
Flynn’s supervisor – Alex Ostridge (an astrophysicist by background) said: “It was a delight to have Flynn work with us at Capterio. I have been incredibly impressed not only by how quickly Flynn was able to manipulate our complex data and come up with his own code to conduct some business-relevant analysis“.
Flynn said “I really enjoyed working with Capterio. It’s given me invaluable insight into how complex science can be used to give rich insights in the challenge of gas flaring. I was inspired by the depth of the data and enjoyed the process of getting deep into real-world data and coming up with some ideas for how the data can bring to life interesting opportunities. It was also fun to see how the Capterio team interacted with its clients in multiple countries.“
