Capterio joins a lively discussion on gas flaring at CERA Week in Houston

It was an honour to join S&P’s Michael Wynne, IOGP’s Faye Gerrard and OGCI’s Justine Roure on a panel on gas flaring at CERA Week.

Despite the highly uncertain geopolitical backdrop, it was pleasing to hear that there is no let up on the global focus on reducing flaring and methane. With 150 BCM+ in our sights, by solving flaring we can not only improve energy security and create value, but reduce emissions and accelerate the energy transition.

Our panel discussed how solving flaring is a quick win that can be achieved through a combination of (a) an enabling environment provided by government, (b) real leadership from companies and NOCs, (c) integration of data, (d) role of creativity in commercial arrangements and (e) best practice project design, execution and collaboration.

Mark highlighted some of the inspiring case examples that will soon feature as part of a major research paper being jointly published by Columbia University. Examples featured come from Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Iraq, Kurdistan and Argentina. Watch this space.
